Adobe Illustrator – Tutor Led

This Adobe Illustrator Training Course is available in our Pitman Training Scotland Centres in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dumfries, Inverness and Forres.

This course provides a complete introduction to Adobe’s industry standard software for producing print, multimedia and on-line graphics. Learn to create illustrations, drawings, maps, logos, advertisements, multimedia and web navigation graphics.

Upon successful completion of this one day workshop you will have covered:

Selection Tools & Drawing Tools

  • Drawing and modifying basic shapes
  • Using the pen and pencil tools to create paths
  • Adjusting path segments
  • Applying Stroke and Fill colours
  • Using the knife & scissors tools to slice a path or an object in two
  • Using paintbrushes
  • Pathfinder filters

Using Colour

  • Picking RGB, CMYK & Pantone colours
  • Using the paint bucket & the eyedropper
  • Gradients and blends, gradient mesh
  • Saving and modifying colours for later use

Working with Text

  • Typing directly onto the page and importing text from a text file
  • Creating columns of text
  • Setting text attributes (font, colour, size, kerning, etc.)
  • Copying text attributes from other text
  • Wrapping text around objects or flowing along a path

Working With Images

  • Placing photographs and other artwork into Illustrator
  • Using an illustrator path to mask an area of an image
  • Tracing the outlines of a photograph or bitmap image
  • Rasterising your vector artwork in bitmaps

Working with Layers

  • Creating layers – setting layer properties
  • Viewing, hiding and locking layers
  • Moving objects between layers

Documents

  • Page setup
  • Viewing the document and working in artwork or preview modes
  • Grids, guides, and other features to help you accurately position objects
  • Adding and using guidelines – locking and unlocking, positioning accurately
  • Getting information about the document and contents
  • Exporting artwork for Photoshop or for a DTP program
  • Tools & Palettes
  • Using the Info Palette & the Transform Palette to maintain accuracy
  • Moving, aligning, & grouping objects
  • Scaling, rotating and transforming and distorting objects
  • Using filters – Vector and bitmap filters

Practical Exercises

  • Creating Logos & Buttons
  • Building Compound Shapes
  • Working with Graphic Styles
  • Creating Headlines for Other Documents

This course is designed to show you how to:

  • Use vector drawing tools
  • Draw shapes, paths and patterns
  • Create and edit text outlines
  • Work with masks, layers and colour profiles
  • Create illustrations and logos for print and web
