A+
The A+ course provides a robust foundation of knowledge and skills for a career in IT support. There are two parts to the A+ course, and each part is broken down into several domains. In the first part of the course, you’ll learn the essentials of working with desktop and laptop computers and mobile devices. You’ll learn about networks and network protocols. You’ll learn all about peripheral hardware devices associated with personal computers. You’ll also explore cloud-computing concepts and client-side virtualisation. Lastly, you’ll learn network and hardware troubleshooting methods and best practices. In the second part of the course, you’ll learn key concepts relating to operating systems and their configurations. You’ll explore best practices of security relating to mobile devices, workstations, and networks. And you’ll learn troubleshooting techniques to help you address operating system and software issues. Upon successful completion of the two parts of the A+ course, you will be well prepared to take the CompTIA A+ certification exam.

Network+
In this course, you’ll learn how to configure, manage, and troubleshoot common wired and wireless network devices. You’ll also learn essential concepts of network security and cloud computing. Upon successful completion of the course, you will be well prepared to take the CompTIA Network+ certification exam and you will be well positioned to work in a network support role.

Security+
In this course, we’ll cover the essential knowledge and skills relating to IT security, including attacks, threats and vulnerabilities, architecture and design, implementation, operations and incident response, and governance, risk, and compliance. Successful completion of the course will prepare you for the CompTIA certification exam. The Security+ certification is a powerful credential to have in today’s IT job market.

Cloud Essentials+
This course will provide an excellent introduction to cloud computing while also preparing you to take the CompTIA Cloud Essentials+ certification exam. Topic covered in the course include essential cloud principles and cloud networking, cloud migration
strategies, cloud connectivity and load balancing, cloud storage technologies, cloud design considerations, cloud security, and risk mitigation with cloud infrastructure. “When I first came to Pitman my life was at a bit of a crossroads. I had just been made redundant from a job I had worked in for almost 13 years. I had been a hallmarker, putting hallmarks on pieces of jewellery. Although quite a skilled job, outside of this specialised profession my skills and experience were now to be useless in what was a tough and competitive job market.
So here I was out in the real world again, and in my mid 40’s too. This was when I decided, with some coaxing from my wife to go to Pitman and eventually enrolled in the Book Keeping level 2 module 1. The advisor explained the courses available and gave me some extra confidence that I could complete the course. I hadn’t done any real studying since I had left school many years ago, and was only barely computer literate but I soon got into the swing of things and started to really enjoy my course. I finished a Pitman Secretarial Diploma in 2008 and after one month working as a temp. I was lucky enough to be offered a permanent job as Clerical/Admin Assistant which is where I am still working now.
Learning to touch type at Pitman definitely helped to secure the job, and also having a certificate from all the units of the secretarial diploma which showed that I could use Microsoft Office programs competently.
I took the option to study from home as living in Perth , it meant I could fit in work around the kids school hours. Though I did enjoy going into Edinburgh occasionally to do Outlook, and Audio. The course was really straightforward, and the tests were an enjoyable challenge.
I love being able to touch type, and it will be useful for the rest of my life, in whatever job I do. I have even got my children started on the BBC’s cool typing lessons for kids, where singing animals encourage you, and I hope that they will be able to type by the time they are teenagers.

Before Pitman I was not working and was finding it difficult to get job. My lack of computer experience was the major factor. Then a friend recommended Pitman Training to me. Since then my life has dramatically changed from worse to better.
As soon as I completed my studies at Pitman and was about to go to Napier University, I got a job as Fulfilment Officer at Help The Age on part time basis. “I just wanted to write and say how much I enjoyed the medical terminology course, and also the medical audio word processing.

“I first enrolled for a computer course in January 2013, I only had very limited knowledge and knew I had to get more advanced skills. I started with word then decided I was enjoying my course and chatted with Linda the Manager regarding what options I should take and that would be best for me in the working environment, so we decided on Office Diploma.
I had just been made redundant from the Airline Industry, which had been my life for the last twelve years, so I knew I wanted to change my career. “I would just like to say thank you to yourself and all your staff for the wonderful training I received at Pitman Training!
I did the Microsoft Office Plus Diploma which took me through the whole Microsoft Office package and gave me a firm understanding in all the different areas such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc. It even allowed me to take electives in different areas such as book-keeping which widened my skills and knowledge in areas I hadn’t looked at before.
I undertook the training whilst I was studying at University and the confidence and experience the courses gave me during my degree and also when going for job interviews was priceless. The job market is terribly competitive at the moment but with the training I received at Pitman I had that something extra that employers were looking for, and the ability to talk about the courses and my experience at Pitman Training.
In particular, I had an interview where they tested my skills in Microsoft Excel. If I had not done the course this would have been a very daunting experience, however, knowing what I had learnt from the Excel course within the Diploma I was very confident in my skills with Excel. I even managed to spot a mistake in their test which I pointed out to them and no other candidate in the past had spotted it!
Consequently I got offered the job as a consultant in a pensions company. However, I did not take this job as an even better job came along within risk management in the banking industry and so I will be starting this in September. I know that they use a lot of Excel and other Microsoft packages and so I am looking forward to being able to show my skills in these areas and it makes starting my new job a more exciting prospect as opposed to one which before I may have been slightly worried about.
