Eileen – Finance and Admin Officer – Access
“I studied the Legal Secretarial Diploma with Pitman because I wanted to have some formal IT qualifications and was interested in finding work in the legal or property sector. Before taking the course I was doing housekeeping and cleaning work and I had decided I wanted to look for something with a more administrative focus.
I had used computers a lot before doing the diploma but I now feel like I have a much better and more organised understanding of programmes like Microsoft Word and Excel and I am confident enough to experiment with them.
I thought I could already type very well but I am so much faster now that I’ve done the Typaz and speed development courses.
I have just been offered a job as a Plans Officer with Registers of Scotland through the Pertemps agency. I wouldn’t have been able to apply for this job without my Pitman diploma.
I would definitely recommend Pitman to others, especially other graduates, because it gives you more confidence and more options. I liked being able to work at my own pace and the supervisors in the training room were really helpful with all my modules.”
HB – Legal Secretarial
“Just a note to let you know I’ve now managed to secure a permanent post as a Finance Assistant/Purchase Ledger Clerk for an electronics firm just South of Edinburgh.
I would just like to say that I believe my Pitman Training certificates in Sage Line 50 and Purchase Ledger were instrumental in securing the above post.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your colleagues for all your help in assisting me in my future career in finance.”
BS – Sage Accounts and Payroll
“I had previously enrolled on a ECDL course through Aberdeen College which I failed to complete as the course was primarily home based with pre-historic methods for learning the given subjects and using there computers wasn’t really an option because of full time classes and a raffle ticket method for trying to book a computer.
I work offshore so my free time is varied and is never the same month to month. I needed to learn these as more and more of my job required knowledge in how to use for example word, excel and outlook. I contacted Pitman Training Aberdeen and went into see Faye about the Microsoft Fast Track Diploma which covers all the key Microsoft packages used in any office. The flexibility in the Pitman Training method of training is what really attracted me to their course, I could go to there training centre at any time I wanted. The learning process is very well developed, and by means of listening, reading and most importantly doing flowing exercises I found I learned the given subjects very fast with ease.
I recently decided to set up my own Ltd Company to enable me to provide Maintenance services primarily to the Oil and Gas Industry for Gas Turbines, diesel engines, pumps and compressors. In doing this I decided to enrol on the Sage Line 50 course as this would help me with my book-keeping and the Dreamweaver course so that I could set up and maintain my own website for the company.
I would recommend anyone wanting to learn or improve their skills to train with Pitman Training Aberdeen. Both Iain and Faye have been really helpful and would not hesitate to enrol on another course with them if I need to.”
CB – Fast Track Diploma
“I spent many years living overseas, on returning to Scotland I was frustrated with the difficulty in finding employment due to my lack of work experience or qualifications in a particular field.
Completing the Legal Secretarial Diploma with Pitman Training has certainly changed this by providing me with the skills and confidence I needed to kick start my career.
Throughout the course the Staff were very helpful and friendly and when the time came to consider seeking employment the support and advice they offered was excellent. Just prior to completing the course I was offered a job in the legal department of a major financial institution in Edinburgh.
I’m absolutely delighted. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole training experience with Pitman, without the Diploma I know I would not have been offered the position.”
MG Legal Secretarial Diploma
First time being in Marion’s course and was an excellent experience, I need more!
Linda – Centre Manager – Conflict Management
‘’I would like to say how much I enjoyed the above course yesterday. I have to say this ranked as one of the very best courses I have attended and I now have a more positive attitude towards meetings/minute taking. Please pass my thanks to the trainer.’’
L D
I finished a Pitman Secretarial Diploma in 2008 and after one month working as a temp. I was lucky enough to be offered a permanent job as Clerical/Admin Assistant which is where I am still working now.
Learning to touch type at Pitman definitely helped to secure the job, and also having a certificate from all the units of the secretarial diploma which showed that I could use Microsoft Office programs competently.
I took the option to study from home as living in Perth , it meant I could fit in work around the kids school hours. Though I did enjoy going into Edinburgh occasionally to do Outlook, and Audio. The course was really straightforward, and the tests were an enjoyable challenge.
I love being able to touch type, and it will be useful for the rest of my life, in whatever job I do. I have even got my children started on the BBC’s cool typing lessons for kids, where singing animals encourage you, and I hope that they will be able to type by the time they are teenagers.
All the trainers at Pitman were really helpful, and always ready to explain things, when I phoned or emailed with questions.
GA – Secretarial Diploma
“I studied the Microsoft Fast Track Diploma and the computer keyboard skills course two years ago. At the time I was completing my Open University degree, and panicking because I had to submit a properly- bound word-processed project, including diagrams taken from scientific journals and I barely knew how to switch the computer on! In my first session I was advised to undertake the introduction to Windows course first because I didn’t have even the very basics.
Having overcome that first hurdle, I really enjoyed the course. The supervisors were really helpful and patient, and never made me feel that I was being stupid, even when I was! I got a distinction for the diploma, and first class honours for the degree. I am now studying for an MSc at Edinburgh University, and I don’t know how I’d cope without the IT skills I gained through the diploma. Even though I’ve forgotten a lot of what I learned through lack of use, I feel I have so much more confidence to try things I would not have attempted before.
My typing speed will never set the world alight, but compared to my former two-fingered jabbing it’s brilliant. Even my teenage daughters have stopped laughing at my efforts!
Thanks to Pitman for a real confidence boost!”
GD – Fast Track Diploma
‘Couldn’t improve, one of the best courses I have ever attended.”
Susan K—–Director—-The PA Exchange
The course content was clear and relevant. I met the objectives I came with.
Leanne – Sales Executive – PowerPoint
Very engaging, simplified a lot of complex issues to meet the needs of the audience. Genuinely found both days very fascinating – very rare that I can listen to someone speak for 2 days and not get bored, but Julie achieved this! Can’t wait to try out my new tools and techniques!
Sarah-Louise – Business Development Executive – Influencing Skills
“I started doing a Secretarial Diploma at Pitman because I had been working in retail since graduating from university in 2008. I had pretty good admin skills but no qualifications and felt like I was stuck in a rut. Pitman was a perfect fit for me because I was working shifts at my job at Glasgow Science Centre and could come in whenever I was free.
At first I thought I was just going to be getting a qualification for skills I already had but I actually learned a lot more than I expected. Modules like Effective Business Communication were helpful and I did electives in Access and Introduction to Medical Secretary which was extremely helpful in getting my new job.
In May 2013, before I had even completed my diploma, I started my job as an Audio Typist for the NHS. I had been searching the NHS pages before I started my diploma and it took the help of Pitman to actually help me find a job. My typing and audio typing skills along with the medical terminology learned in Pitman have been essential in my progress within my job with my manager telling me she feels I have a career in the NHS ahead of me.
I just discovered today that I received a distinction for my diploma and am now thinking of where to move up within my new sector. Without Pitman, I don’t think I would have been able to get out of retail so I’m very happy to have chosen to take this course!”
EJ – Secretarial Diploma
“I really enjoyed the Diploma which I am sure will improve my career prospects. I am looking forward to putting what I learned into practice.”
CC – Diploma
‘’Over the past two years we have used Pitman Training for a number of courses and the feedback has always been excellent.
I have personally been on two – Delegation Skills and Supervisory Skills, both proved to be well constructed, interactive and of great use not just in the workplace but as useful tools in general life.
One of our other teams have used their Project Management course to great effect. It was carried out by someone who has masses of experience in Project Management so gave a solid practical slant rather than a Trainer delivering a course. It would be fair to say that the two courses that I attended were the same.
On the whole I find them extremely professional, also great if you want a bespoke course.
I have over the years used a variety of companies and Pitman always seem to deliver exactly what you want.’’
Elma C——HR Administrator (Training)—–NHS Education for Scotland
Very friendly and I never felt that I was being taught anything but the information flowed. Your trainer is the best thing about this course. Thank you Julie.
Tracy – Support Assistant – Train The Trainer
The trainer was excellent and took time to make sure we all understood what we were doing.
Louise – Commercial Manager – Word
The trainer was very knowledgeable and helpful. The facilities were good to. Very good – highly recommend to anyone.
Dawn – Head of Project Management – MS Project
I successfully completed Executive PA Diploma at Pitman in 2013. With the help of Pitman training I also gained Microsoft 2010 Master Qualification which enabled me to become a confident and proficient administrator in record times.
DT – Executive PA Diploma
“Great Knowledge on subject. Friendly and relaxed throughout. Excellent!”
Word Introduction Andy McDougall—–National MuseumsScotland
Marion was very clear about the topic covered in the course. I found I actually enjoyed it more than I was expecting.
Jamie – Customer Service/Security – Receptionist Seminar
“I just wanted to send you a quick email to say thank you most sincerely for finding me a place on the course. I have to say to you that I found the course totally inspirational. I have been on many courses, some dreadful and some ok, but none came anywhere near to the quality delivered by Pitman Training. The Trainer was so energetic, enthusiastic, very knowledgeable, friendly and adaptable to our needs – no wonder you heard the hoots of laughter from the course room, everyone was just enjoying it so much. It was a great group as well, lots of characters and this helped as well.
Our Trainer kept us totally captivated for 3 days and that’s no easy task when delivering – she is a gem. If I could be a Trainer with even half her ability I would be delighted.”
Derek Walker ——Project Manager
“I left school in 2010 with 3 A-Levels and the opportunity to study at a top university. After a year working in retail alongside unfortunate periods of ill-health stemming from a medical condition that I was born with, I decided that university just wouldn’t suit me. The decision to ‘skip’ the university step lead me to Pitman Training.
I studied for the Executive PA Diploma, starting in September 2011 and completing by April 2012. My electives were Marketing, PR and Advertising. I studied Teeline shorthand and attended the Executive PA seminar.
Following completion of the Executive PA Diploma, I was immediately signed to Office Angels’ temp books and quickly became their most requested temps. I worked for a variety of organisations including law firms, wealth management firms, business centres, health centres and accountancy bodies. I even did a bit of events work for music gigs which was great fun. My last assignment with Office Angels was an Administrator/PA position at the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAS). After three months I was offered a full-time, permanent position.
I was an Administrator/PA at ICAS for 15 months and I used all of my Pitman skills on a daily basis. I have now just started a new job as Secretary to the Edinburgh Residential sales team at Knight Frank, a global organisation which presents huge opportunities for my career going forwards. I see myself working for Knight Frank for many years to come.
Without my qualification and skills gained through the Executive PA Diploma I wouldn’t be in the position that I am today. The staff at York Place were incredibly kind and helpful and made the training environment a very happy one. The flexible approach to study proved invaluable especially during periods of ill health. I am pleased to say that I am happy, healthy and loving living in Edinburgh and working full-time – something we never thought would be possible a couple of years ago.
I would recommend the Executive PA Diploma to absolutely anybody. Not only do you learn many new computer skills – even as a fairly ‘tecchy’ person – but you actually learn a lot about yourself and where your strengths/weaknesses lie. I found the Executive PA Seminar particularly helpful as it gave me a real insight into the life of a high-level PA. My decision not to go to university was definitely not an easy one and it was daunting at first but I’m so pleased with where my career is at now. I’m very fortunate to have a full-time, permanent job in the current market when so many of my friends are struggling to find a job after 3 years at university.”
AL – Executive PA Diploma
“This was one of the most useful training sessions I have ever been to.The tutor gave a lot of practical advice and I thought asking people to commit to action plans to take advice back to the workplace was great. The trainer really listened to people and made sure everyone’s objectives were dealt with fully.”
Zoe Westwood—–Project Officer—-Changeworks
I found learning at Pitman Training was enjoyable, which makes all the difference. It was probably one of the best decisions I have made in the last decade.
S E
I would have no hesitation in recommending Pitman Training to anyone who has an interest in investing in their personal development
C N – Executive Assistant
The trainer was very good, explained everything clearly and answered questions well. The content of the course was at a good level for introduction.
Alison – Project Manager – Access
The training has helped give me a lot of the practical skills I needed to be a secretary. But more importantly it gave me confidence in myself and my ability to go out and get a job, knowing I had a great head start in comparison with many other people in the job market.
S D – Executive PA
Very good. I did a full semester in university on Project Management and this course taught me much more than I learned at university.
Rosemary – Wind Farm Developer – Project Management Principles
I am enjoying my new role as medical audio typist. Studying at Pitman Training was a good break from the every day world of work. I learned that some of the computer applications I’d heard of before were not as scary as I’d once thought!!
M M – Medical Audio Typist
“Two years ago I was at a crossroads in my career as a Textile CAD designer and decided to expand my IT knowledge in the hope of broadening my job options.
Knowing the cost involved I began my research and found plenty of organizations who offered IT courses, but little else. Pitman Training on the other hand offered the support and the resources at an extremely competitive price.
Starting with the CompTIA A+ courses passing both these exams, I was extremely motivated to expand my knowledge further and receiving all the advice I needed from Pitman I am now one exam away from achieving my MCSA Microsoft qualification.
I am currently working in an IT support role which was initially a trainee position. But using the knowledge I have obtained through the courses at Pitman this has allowed me to become a supervisor a lot sooner than I had imagined.
I can’t recommend Pitman Training enough to people and although the courses I undertook where online and mostly home study, I enjoyed using the facilities finding the atmosphere very conducive to studying with very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable staff.”
IL – IT Technical
“I studied the Microsoft Fast Track Diploma. I had been working in a beauty salon for 5 years – I was a therapist and in January I gave up treatments and became the full time receptionist. I really wanted a Monday – Friday receptionist role in an office but because I didn’t have much IT experience I knew that I would find the job search difficult.
The Microsoft training gave me the skills that employers were looking for and I found that once I had the qualification on my CV I started getting selected for interviews. As well as learning new skills the course also helped to just refresh my memory on some things that I could already do.
I am now working in a new job which is the Monday – Friday role I wanted. My job title is Customer Service Assistant. This is a Front of House role which involves a lot of meeting and greeting and looking after all of the tenants in the building who we provide serviced offices for.
I enjoyed the training as it felt very relaxed and I liked that I could go at my own pace. I am so happy that I got this qualification for myself. I really believe that without my qualification I would be stuck in a job that I really wasn’t happy in for many more years!
Thank you Pitman training!”
JS – Fast Track Diploma
“I studied the Accounting Technician Diploma with Pitman Training in Edinburgh. I decided to do this course, as I was just about to be made redundant, and decided that I wanted to gain some new skills to help me when applying for a new job. I was also thinking about starting my own company, and thought that finance studies would never go wrong.
A couple of months after redundancy, I got a temporary post at SAMH, and then applied and got my current post as the HRD (Human Resources & Development) Administrator. Although I hadn’t completed the course when I got my job, the skills I had learnt so far has helped me out in my new job, as I have to monitor budgets and make monthly reports to my boss.
I enjoy learning at Pitman. You learn at your own speed, which makes it all much easier. This is the second course I’ve done at Pitman, and would recommend it to anyone.”
LM – Accounting Technician Diploma
“I completed the Accounting Technician Course with Pitman Training after being made redundant from my IT Position, but I was also keeping the accounts and payroll for my husband’s business on a voluntary basis, but had no real training.
I had to make a choice of either retraining for another IT position or taking my Accounts knowledge forward. I was sceptical regarding my accounts knowledge, but after a meeting with Pitman staff, I left feeling much more confident. The enthusiasm and commitment from the staff showed me that I was actually capable of making a career change.
The course was flexible, so I was able to work around home and current work commitments.
As soon as I was actually made redundant, I picked up a six month contract and since then I have worked almost non-stop on temp or fixed term contracts mainly through an agency. I often take my actual certificates with me to interviews and employers are impressed.
I am so glad that I went for the initial meeting regarding my career, it has helped me build a new career after the redundancy setback.”
SK – Accounting Technician DIploma
Our trainer was excellent, by bringing real life examples it makes it easier to put into context.
Lesley – Operational Risk Analyst – Meetings and Minutes
“As I was due to retire from teaching within a few months, I was looking to update my computer skills in order to facilitate a move to part time work in administration/ reception. After a chat with Linda, I decided upon the Fast Track Microsoft Office Diploma. This enabled me to remember work I had previously done in class using Word and PowerPoint and to also extend my use of the programs. The three others modules covered were Outlook, Excel and Access. I have to say Access was the most challenging for me, even though I could see the logic in it!!
I thoroughly enjoyed working through the modules as you are able to work at your own pace and go over areas again and again until you feel comfortable with your understanding. Another very positive aspect to going in to the Centre to work is the invaluable help given by the staff who are friendly and on hand to iron out any little problems; they calm you down when frustration levels begin to rise at your inability to see where you have gone wrong and expertly set you back on the right pathway!
I am delighted to say that I completed the course with Distinction.
At the moment I am not working but am now veering towards working within the NHS. In order to further my chances with this I am currently studying Medical Terminology. Again a bit of a refresher for me as I have previously studied Anatomy and Physiology, but am enjoying it none the less as it makes me use my brain cells. Not a bad thing!
Although not working I have been looking at the Show Website for NHS workers and will also be looking to find temporary work through an agency, if the first option does not work out, in order to gain experience back in an office environment.
I am glad I made the decision to call Pitman and chat to Linda about options. I can be a bit of a learning junkie and once I have the bit between my teeth I may well find another area to study and keep me at Pitman that bit longer.
Very satisfied client”
JN – Fast Track Diploma
A very good course. Learned quite a lot of new supervision tips that I never knew. Hope to take things I have learned from this course into my working environment which hopefully will make me a good supervisor.
William – Maintenance Chargehand – Supervisory Skills
I loved that the trainer had done the role and understands the job and what is needed. Excellent!
Nicola – Office Administrator – Meertings and Minutes
“I thought I would drop you a line to say that I am now established with my new job where I am working as a Property Manager. As you know when I came to you I was just about able to bang out an e mail and wouldn’t have known where to find such sophistications as “page breaks” etc. A really challenging student for your ever patient and encouraging team! I would certainly say to anyone thinking of a course with you not to consider being too old to learn. I certainly had my extreme doubts but the constant encouragement from your team got me through!
I am now using a fairly all embracing software system which is tailored to the needs of this company and in addition my Outlook and Word skills are used all the time. I feel completely confident in saying that despite many years in the property business I would not have been able to cope with this job without the training I received at Pitman, thank you.
My new employers are both very computer competent but I believe I may have the “edge” on PowerPoint – how satisfying is that!
I would recommend the Fast Track Microsoft Skills Diploma course to anyone wanting to enhance their employment prospects, it certainly worked for me.”
SH – Diploma
Excellent.
Alison – Receptionist – Outlook
“When I met you back in February 2014 my mental state was at a low ebb. After our chat you gave me hope within myself!
When I realised what I was about to undertake, trepidation set in. Well, five months later I achieved my goal attaining a Diploma in Administration Assistant. This is such an huge achievement for me, being the first actual qualification I’ve attained. So a huge pat on the back for me!!!!
What can I say about Pitman Training, Edinburgh, simply first class! Your supervisors are a great bunch, nothing was too much trouble. Even when it came to asking what potentially could be a ‘stupid’ question, they always treated you with respect. I certainly asked a few ‘stupid’ questions! Their patience and understanding was first class, knowing that some of us weren’t on the same level with computer programmes as they were.
The courses are well set out with books and audio to help you along. The audio and on screen items are clear and concise, keeping it both plain and simple.
After five months my confidence is returning and that can only be a good thing for my future.
I’ve managed to secure a job with Edinburgh City Council and If there ever becomes a need to learn further subjects, you’ll be the first people I’ll contact.
Many thanks for all the help I’ve had over the past five months, so much appreciated.”
IS – Administration Assistant Diploma
Excellent trainer. Knowledgeable with a very pleasant and helpful manner.
Julie – Manager – Outlook
The trainer was engaging with audience, friendly, approachable and covered content of course excellently.
Tracey – Employer Engagement Officer – Communication Skills
Knowledgeable, Approachable and effective communicator.
Margaret – Care home manager – Assertiveness
“I found the style of teaching, materials provided, seminars, the instructors’ behaviour and attitude, of excellent quality and standards. I am happy.”
SD – Executive PA Diploma
The skills that I learnt on the course come up time and time again on a daily basis and I am sure that the diploma on my CV has ensured interviews for a number of job applications.
L B – PR Assistant
“I had worked in Lettings Management for over six years and decided to have a complete career change. Pitman Training offered a legal secretarial course which I was able to complete in two and a half months full time and in less than two weeks of completion of the course, I found work.
I registered with a few recruitment agencies but also sent my CV to law firms directly. I am now working as a PA for the main partner of a law firm and training as a paralegal.
Thanks to Pitman and the team at the Edinburgh office, who have been very helpful, I am thankful and happy embarking on my new career.”
RA – Legal Secretarial Diploma
Marion was great. She made the day very interesting and adapted it well to suit individual needs.
Laura – Admin Assistant – Better Business Writing
“I studied a Pitman Accounting Technician Diploma. My intention was to use the course to complement my accounting qualification and as a return to work plan in my chosen career area.
Since my training, I believe that the course has assisted me in that I am now being trained for cash office duties and procedures. I have as well been given a chance on a volunteer basis by one of the housing association in their accounts departments through courtesy of Central Scotland Racial Equality Council, where am having a chance to work with Sage Line 50 v12 and Sage payroll. Am drawing heavily from what I have learnt in Pitman Training.
I would lik to thank all the staff at Pitman and especially the Supervisors who were very helpful whenever I needed assistance.
Having been allowed to pay for the Course on monthly instalments, making it possible for me to afford the Course in easy instalments.
The fact that you can be able to programme your time of attendance is a big plus to the college.
The courses are very well presented in a methodical manner that makes it easy to follow and would recommend to others who are looking forward for training.”
