About this course

Cloud infrastructure consists of the physical location of the cloud data centre. Depending on the location of the data centre, there are different risks that are taken by the service provider and different methods used to tackle security issues.

In this course, you’ll learn how to maintain a secure cloud environment using open-source software. Additionally, you’ll learn essential security concepts, such as protecting data in motion and at rest, using encryption so that clients can see only their data.

You’ll examine proper life cycle management of the cloud environment, including patching, encryption, and minimising business impacts.

You’ll also examine system and OS hardening, which can reduce software vulnerability and provide data confidentiality and privacy.

“I started doing a Secretarial Diploma at Pitman because I had been working in retail since graduating from university in 2008. I had pretty good admin skills but no qualifications and felt like I was stuck in a rut. Pitman was a perfect fit for me because I was working shifts at my job at Glasgow Science Centre and could come in whenever I was free.

Before Pitman I was not working and was finding it difficult to get job. My lack of computer experience was the major factor. Then a friend recommended Pitman Training to me. Since then my life has dramatically changed from worse to better.
As soon as I completed my studies at Pitman and was about to go to Napier University, I got a job as Fulfilment Officer at Help The Age on part time basis. “After graduating a few years ago and going off for a few years to live abroad, I then came back and decided to pursue a career in law. I decided the best route was to first get experience in a law firm and then perhaps study part time. “I started the Executive PA/Secretarial Diploma course at the Pitman Training Centre in Edinburgh in August 2012 and followed up with 2 Legal Modules.
Before I started my Pitman Training course I was working in retail and not feeling like I was getting anything out of my job. My training has helped me to build up the knowledge and skills required to work in a much more demanding position and has been a great help to me.
In April 2013, I left my job and applied for a job as a receptionist at a Hotel outside Aberfeldy – a job which a friend had seen advertised and suggested I applied for. The job description entailed working mainly behind reception, dealing with guests, but also comprised of a lot of secretarial based work such as organising functions and meetings and typing up notes and menus etc. I was offered the job only hours after I went for the interview and so of course accepted it straight away.
I applied for the receptionists job 9 months after I began my course, as initially I was in no great rush to find another job, but would rather focus on working through the modules so that I would have the necessary experience for when I did decide to apply for something else.
I have loved doing my Pitman courses and have found the workbooks and online exercises very beneficial. I have enjoyed being able to work through each part of the course in my own time and being able to repeat exercises and aspects of modules has definitely been a help, especially on some of the more tricky subjects. It has made me a feel a lot more comfortable in what I am doing and has allowed me to go over parts that I was having any difficulty with.

Having not been to university, almost all of my experience had been picked up at work and therefore to move in to a new specialised career was going to be very difficult without some form of qualification.
After doing a lot of research I decided that Pitman had exactly the course I wanted and an excellent reputation so I knew I would be in good hands. From the very first time I went in to sign up to the course, right through to the completion, the team were so helpful and friendly, ready to help with any problems and provide support.
I had already completed 60% of the course when I discovered I was being made redundant from my current role. Whilst obviously a big shock, I had been planning to leave in any case.
