Leanne – Sales Executive – PowerPoint
“When I met you back in February 2014 my mental state was at a low ebb. After our chat you gave me hope within myself!
When I realised what I was about to undertake, trepidation set in. Well, five months later I achieved my goal attaining a Diploma in Administration Assistant. This is such an huge achievement for me, being the first actual qualification I’ve attained. So a huge pat on the back for me!!!!
What can I say about Pitman Training, Edinburgh, simply first class! Your supervisors are a great bunch, nothing was too much trouble. Even when it came to asking what potentially could be a ‘stupid’ question, they always treated you with respect. I certainly asked a few ‘stupid’ questions! Their patience and understanding was first class, knowing that some of us weren’t on the same level with computer programmes as they were.
The courses are well set out with books and audio to help you along. The audio and on screen items are clear and concise, keeping it both plain and simple.
After five months my confidence is returning and that can only be a good thing for my future.
I’ve managed to secure a job with Edinburgh City Council and If there ever becomes a need to learn further subjects, you’ll be the first people I’ll contact.
Many thanks for all the help I’ve had over the past five months, so much appreciated.”
IS – Administration Assistant Diploma
I finished a Pitman Secretarial Diploma in 2008 and after one month working as a temp. I was lucky enough to be offered a permanent job as Clerical/Admin Assistant which is where I am still working now.
Learning to touch type at Pitman definitely helped to secure the job, and also having a certificate from all the units of the secretarial diploma which showed that I could use Microsoft Office programs competently.
I took the option to study from home as living in Perth , it meant I could fit in work around the kids school hours. Though I did enjoy going into Edinburgh occasionally to do Outlook, and Audio. The course was really straightforward, and the tests were an enjoyable challenge.
I love being able to touch type, and it will be useful for the rest of my life, in whatever job I do. I have even got my children started on the BBC’s cool typing lessons for kids, where singing animals encourage you, and I hope that they will be able to type by the time they are teenagers.
All the trainers at Pitman were really helpful, and always ready to explain things, when I phoned or emailed with questions.
GA – Secretarial Diploma
Very good, no improvements to suggest. Marion was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Joyce – Governance manager – Better Business Writing
Knowledgeable, Approachable and effective communicator.
Margaret – Care home manager – Assertiveness
“I just want to thank you and your staff for all the help you offered me while I was studying my Executive PA Diploma at Pitman in Glasgow.
Before doing my training with Pitman I had studied ACCA but did not have much work experience, by doing the course I gained valuable skills that are now helping me at my new job at one of the big accountancy firms.
What I liked best about the course was flexibility of the course, I was able to choose the time and hours I did the course. The staff were very helpful and I will not hesitate to recommend this course to any of my friends.
Thank you again for all your help.”
SK – Executive PA Diploma
Excellent. Very approachable and knowledgeable. Made the subject interesting.
Angela – Assistant Facilities Manager – Excel
“I had worked in Lettings Management for over six years and decided to have a complete career change. Pitman Training offered a legal secretarial course which I was able to complete in two and a half months full time and in less than two weeks of completion of the course, I found work.
I registered with a few recruitment agencies but also sent my CV to law firms directly. I am now working as a PA for the main partner of a law firm and training as a paralegal.
Thanks to Pitman and the team at the Edinburgh office, who have been very helpful, I am thankful and happy embarking on my new career.”
RA – Legal Secretarial Diploma
The course was catered specifically to spreadsheets I use in my daily business, so was invaluable, useful and relevant.
Jennifer – Examinations Administrator – Excel
“I completed the Accounting Technician Course with Pitman Training after being made redundant from my IT Position, but I was also keeping the accounts and payroll for my husband’s business on a voluntary basis, but had no real training.
I had to make a choice of either retraining for another IT position or taking my Accounts knowledge forward. I was sceptical regarding my accounts knowledge, but after a meeting with Pitman staff, I left feeling much more confident. The enthusiasm and commitment from the staff showed me that I was actually capable of making a career change.
The course was flexible, so I was able to work around home and current work commitments.
As soon as I was actually made redundant, I picked up a six month contract and since then I have worked almost non-stop on temp or fixed term contracts mainly through an agency. I often take my actual certificates with me to interviews and employers are impressed.
I am so glad that I went for the initial meeting regarding my career, it has helped me build a new career after the redundancy setback.”
SK – Accounting Technician DIploma
‘I found this course hugely beneficial. I have just taken on a training aspect to my current role and the skills gained on this course have given me the confidence to approach the training sessions in a much more positive way.
This course gave me both the knowledge of how to put a training session together, and insight into the different approaches and skills used to deliver the training. I particularly found the practical aspect of the course useful. Throughout the three days, we not only learnt ‘how’ to do various tasks, but actually did, and evaluated them’.
MC—-Project Officer
Marion was very clear about the topic covered in the course. I found I actually enjoyed it more than I was expecting.
Jamie – Customer Service/Security – Receptionist Seminar
“I studied the Accounting Technician Diploma with Pitman Training in Edinburgh. I decided to do this course, as I was just about to be made redundant, and decided that I wanted to gain some new skills to help me when applying for a new job. I was also thinking about starting my own company, and thought that finance studies would never go wrong.
A couple of months after redundancy, I got a temporary post at SAMH, and then applied and got my current post as the HRD (Human Resources & Development) Administrator. Although I hadn’t completed the course when I got my job, the skills I had learnt so far has helped me out in my new job, as I have to monitor budgets and make monthly reports to my boss.
I enjoy learning at Pitman. You learn at your own speed, which makes it all much easier. This is the second course I’ve done at Pitman, and would recommend it to anyone.”
LM – Accounting Technician Diploma
The trainer was happy to stop and answer any questions and did not make you feel your questions were silly.
Eileen – Finance and Admin Officer – Access
I was recently promoted to secretary to the Clinical Director at the Princess Royal Maternity in Glasgow. The job is varied, interesting and very well paid. I still have fond memories of my days at Pitman Training.
E L – Medical Secretary to the Clinical Director
I applied for several jobs and was offered the first one I was interviewed for and was in full, permanent employment within three weeks of finishing my course.
E H – Accounts Assistant
Julie tailored the course excellently to the different interests/problems of the participants. She sought out appropriate material related to our fields of work. I felt the small course size was excellent.
Rachel – Manager – Influencing Skills
Great, helpful, friendly staff, good location easily accessible etc.
Sam – Customer Services Administration – Speedwriting
“I spent many years living overseas, on returning to Scotland I was frustrated with the difficulty in finding employment due to my lack of work experience or qualifications in a particular field.
Completing the Legal Secretarial Diploma with Pitman Training has certainly changed this by providing me with the skills and confidence I needed to kick start my career.
Throughout the course the Staff were very helpful and friendly and when the time came to consider seeking employment the support and advice they offered was excellent. Just prior to completing the course I was offered a job in the legal department of a major financial institution in Edinburgh.
I’m absolutely delighted. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole training experience with Pitman, without the Diploma I know I would not have been offered the position.”
MG Legal Secretarial Diploma
The trainer was excellent and took time to make sure we all understood what we were doing.
Louise – Commercial Manager – Word
“I was previously working as an Office Manager for a small online retailer – which I enjoyed – but I was ready for a new challenge and wanted to expand my CV.
I couldn’t fault the training at Pitman. Each course was easily manageable as it was split into lessons. To add to that, the supervisors were always on hand to help out with any questions, however big or small.
I applied for one job I particularly liked the sound of, and after two interviews, a psychometric test and three skills tests (which I was able to complete with confidence due to my training at Pitman) I found out I was successful!
I am now Office Manager and PA to a senior member of staff at one of Scotland’s leading estate agents. I absolutely love my new role and I am learning more and more every day.
I could have easily stayed in my old job but wanted a new challenge, on a different path, and Pitman training was the stepping stone I needed.
I would fully recommend the Executive PA course to anyone looking to develop their skills and CV. It gave me confidence to apply for the job I have now, helped me in the interview process and above all, now helps me on a daily basis in my new role.
The team at Pitman made me feel welcome and comfortable, and my time spent at York Place was most enjoyable.
Many thanks!”
KC – Executive PA Diploma
“I just wanted to send you a quick email to say thank you most sincerely for finding me a place on the course. I have to say to you that I found the course totally inspirational. I have been on many courses, some dreadful and some ok, but none came anywhere near to the quality delivered by Pitman Training. The Trainer was so energetic, enthusiastic, very knowledgeable, friendly and adaptable to our needs – no wonder you heard the hoots of laughter from the course room, everyone was just enjoying it so much. It was a great group as well, lots of characters and this helped as well.
Our Trainer kept us totally captivated for 3 days and that’s no easy task when delivering – she is a gem. If I could be a Trainer with even half her ability I would be delighted.”
Derek Walker ——Project Manager
Very friendly and I never felt that I was being taught anything but the information flowed. Your trainer is the best thing about this course. Thank you Julie.
Tracy – Support Assistant – Train The Trainer
I have a job with the Inland Revenue as a Revenue Assistant. I enjoyed your course’s flexibility the most, as it was at my own pace.
J M – Inland Revenue Assistant
Julie related ‘real life’ situations which I could relate to.
Paul – Problem Manager – Communication Skills
Will be taking a lot from the course back to the work place.
Graham – Home Manager – Conflict Management
“I first enrolled for a computer course in January 2013, I only had very limited knowledge and knew I had to get more advanced skills. I started with word then decided I was enjoying my course and chatted with Linda the Manager regarding what options I should take and that would be best for me in the working environment, so we decided on Office Diploma.
I had just been made redundant from the Airline Industry, which had been my life for the last twelve years, so I knew I wanted to change my career. I had realised that IT skills are so important as I had now started looking for work and realised very quickly that the job market was very competitive.
I have not mentioned this till now but I am visually impaired and have been since birth so having a disability makes it even more difficult for employers to consider employing a disabled person, when so many abled bodied people are available so the training I received was incredible, the one to one help that the Glasgow ladies gave me was amazing I am surprised I never turned them to drink, but nothing fazed them they provided me with Zoom text and large print books and test papers. I was not very successful at school and the thought of taking exams really scared me but they sat me down and told me I could do it just take my time and they were right I managed to complete my Diploma.
I am now working for a charity called Momentum on the east side of Glasgow on a six months contract which was arrange through another charity to give me some office experience.
I enjoyed every day in the Glasgow office such a lovely atmosphere and such kindness that I was shown was just incredible and gave me a new found confidence.
Thank you team Glasgow, you’re the best.”
DB – Word and Microsoft Office Plus Diploma
“When I first came to see you I found myself aged 50 with no skills to offer the modern workplace and I had no idea how I would earn a living and support myself financially. I decided to undertake the Legal Secretarial Diploma and, at first, it felt like I had such a huge mountain to climb. However, I kept reminding myself of that well worn quote that, even the longest journey begins with one small step. I was able to study as and when I could and fit it around all the personal changes that were going on in my life.
With the patience, help and support and encouragement of everyone at Pitman I gained my diploma. However, I wasn’t sure if being a legal secretary was what I wanted to do so I decided to temp for a while to gain experience and ‘test the waters’. Since then, I have been a Medical Secretary, Office Manager in a very busy recruitment consultancy and, more recently, Administrator in a small firm of quantity surveyors.
At the end of last year I decided to start looking for a permanent post and have just been offered a part-time position as Audio Typist/Medical Secretary. This will bring together my previous nursing experience and knowledge of medical terminology with all that I have learned at Pitman and consolidated while temping.
I have such fond memories of the training room and found all the staff to be friendly and helpful. I would recommend the courses to anyone and wish I had discovered Pitman years ago. Big thanks to you all.”
JG – Legal Secretarial Diploma
Excellent trainer. Knowledgeable with a very pleasant and helpful manner.
Julie – Manager – Outlook
The trainer was very good, explained everything clearly and answered questions well. The content of the course was at a good level for introduction.
Alison – Project Manager – Access
Very engaging, simplified a lot of complex issues to meet the needs of the audience. Genuinely found both days very fascinating – very rare that I can listen to someone speak for 2 days and not get bored, but Julie achieved this! Can’t wait to try out my new tools and techniques!
Sarah-Louise – Business Development Executive – Influencing Skills
Julie was able to convey the content of the course clearly and used lots of real life examples to demonstrate. As we were a small group she was able to detail the course to meet our own objectives. Very useful course with knowledgeable trainer. I have learnt skills which will be used immediately within the workplace and at home.
Cara – Assistant Accountant – Influencing Skills
Very useful, customised experience, highly recommended.
Sam – Programme Officer – Project Management Principles
“After 12 years working for an airline I decided to make a career change and started looking into various training companies. I selected Pitman Training based on their helpfulness and support.
I started studying in August of 2007 and initially signed up for Comptia’s A+ to ensure I was making the right choice. After completing this with the great help I got from John and Martin I then went on to study for my MCSA.
Before completing my course I started applying for a few jobs and was lucky to secure a position with BCF Technology as an IT support engineer. I have no doubt that taking this course had a lot to do with their decision.
Throughout my involvement with Pitman Training I received nothing but encouragement from all the staff and fellow students, which certainly made learning easier and more enjoyable. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending Pitman Training to anyone that asked and will be using them for any future training I may need to undergo.”
MM – IT Technical
“The skills I have learned by doing the course have helped with my confidence and ability to carry out tasks quicker and easier. I was frustrated with my lack of knowledge of the various Microsoft packages and was convinced that there ‘must be an easier way’ of doing things. Not only did I brush up on my Word skills, my office skills got a complete overhaul and without a doubt, they helped me get the job I’m in now.
I proved to myself that I’m never too old to learn and that there’s always a need to update skills throughout your working career regardless of how long you’ve been in a role.
I was working in a recruitment agency on a part time basis and had finished the Pitman course when I saw the job on S1 jobs web site. I sent in my cv and went for an interview. Following the interview I sent a thank you letter which was one of the skills learnt in ‘Go Get That Job’. I was successful in getting the role and I subsequently found out that they were so impressed that I’d sent a thank you letter that they offered me the job over someone else who was equally qualified. Such a simple thing to do but very effective.
I would thoroughly recommend anyone to do a course at Pitman, whether it is a comprehensive course such as the Executive PA course or a single subject course. Not only has the organisation been going a long time and has built up an enviable reputation, but I also found the flexible method of learning suited my situation as I was working part time and was able to wrap the course hours around my job. The supervisory staff were very helpful and approachable and did their best to help you out.”
SH – Executive PA Diploma
‘’Over the past two years we have used Pitman Training for a number of courses and the feedback has always been excellent.
I have personally been on two – Delegation Skills and Supervisory Skills, both proved to be well constructed, interactive and of great use not just in the workplace but as useful tools in general life.
One of our other teams have used their Project Management course to great effect. It was carried out by someone who has masses of experience in Project Management so gave a solid practical slant rather than a Trainer delivering a course. It would be fair to say that the two courses that I attended were the same.
On the whole I find them extremely professional, also great if you want a bespoke course.
I have over the years used a variety of companies and Pitman always seem to deliver exactly what you want.’’
Elma C——HR Administrator (Training)—–NHS Education for Scotland
Julie was excellent, she has given me the tools and skills to go forward as a trainer and do it confidently.
Natalie – Business Travel Consultant – Train The Trainer
Julie was an extremely good deliverer of the course content, very knowledgeable. I noticed she never failed to answer any questions and had offered solutions to all issues put to her.
Paul – Scientist – Supervisory Skills
“I enrolled with Pitman in August 2008, having been made redundant from my job as a Legal Secretary in July 2008. I studied the Pitman Upgrade to Fast Track Microsoft Skills Diploma. When I returned to work in 2000 having raised my family, I was unfamiliar with computers I undertook a very basic computer course and was lucky to be offered a part time job with a local Solicitors, but I always felt there was so much more to Word and Excel that I did not know. Having spent six months at Pitman doing the above course, I was lucky enough to get a part time job as a typist/receptionist with W R Hall, Chartered Surveyors. Although this job is very different to my last one, I have been able to make use of the skills I learned on your course, especially with Word and Excel.
Having been a volunteer with the Citizens Advice Bureau for many years, in August 2009 I was offered an admin job. I needed to use Access and could confidently do this having completed my training in that as well. I now have two part time jobs which keeps me very busy! I feel sure that I would not have been offered the second admin job if I had not learned Access, as this takes up a great part of my working hours.
I really enjoyed my time at Pitman. The staff were really friendly and helpful and it was a very professional environment to be in. It certainly got me through the six months I was unemployed, as it felt almost like going out to work on the days I attended the Training Centre.”
HG – Fast Track Diploma
The small group to tutor ratio was very helpful. It was at a great location, lunch was a treat, the training was well-paced and clear. The trainer was very patient, not patronising (a relief) and very helpful.
Paula – Assistant Visitor Experience Manager – Word
I am currently working in the city in London as a PA. It is lots of fun, however very hard work!
L P – Personal Assistant
I came to Pitmans after leaving my job as a Customer Service Team Leader as I wanted to better myself & change careers. I studied the Executive PA Diploma, the course was very informative & could be done at my own pace. After completing the course I temped for 3 months & then I managed to get a job as an administrator through Office Angels. I am now working for an Interior Design company as PA to the Managing Director.
I would recommend Pitman to anyone who wants to improve themselves, I also made some new friends who I am still in contact with, as my circle of friends was very limited as I knew no-one when I moved to Edinburgh 3 years ago…
Many thanks again, I will be back!
LB – Executive PA Diploma
I am enjoying my new role as medical audio typist. Studying at Pitman Training was a good break from the every day world of work. I learned that some of the computer applications I’d heard of before were not as scary as I’d once thought!!
M M – Medical Audio Typist
“I have completed two Diplomas at Pitman Training, first the Secretarial Diploma, and then the Accounts Technician Diploma with AAT.
I was at School before training began, started Pitman in the final year of school through my mum’s suggestion and finished training just before I got my University degree.
As I was at University during the peak of the economic crisis it was emphasised to us by every tutor/lecturer that just having a degree is not enough for you to stand out from the crowd in the job market. That extra skills and experience are essential.
I was studying economics and finance at university, so after completing the Secretarial Diploma for computer/admin skills I thought it would be a good idea to get some financial related qualification from Pitman.
The training has helped me enormously with University assignments and essay writing. It allowed me to make the most of the Microsoft applications, and therefore produce the best work I could. The touch typing skills I learnt are exceedingly useful, it cuts out so much time and now requires minimal effort to type up my thoughts/information, the words are on the screen pretty much the instant my brain thinks them.
Having Excel and Excel Expert has helped me in too many ways to count. In part-time jobs, I was able to provide a high standard of work and also impress managers by surpassing what is expected of me with computer related tasks. It also opened doors to new responsibilities in my work that wouldn’t have been given to me if I wasn’t so capable in Microsoft.
I am now working at an Architects as an Accounts Assistant. Every day I am using the skills that I learnt including Sage and Microsoft in particular Excel. I have no doubt that my qualifications in and ability to demonstrate knowledge helped me to get the job and pass the skills tests GLM set me as part of the interview process.
The staff at Pitman Training are amazing and will always do anything to help you learn, and they do it gladly, and I cannot fault them in any way.
Pitman has helped me with my transitioning from an aimless school girl to a professional young adult, through the time I have spent there.
I now feel prepared for the real world and look forward to having a successful career in finance, all thanks to Pitman for allowing me to get my foot in the job market door.”
RO – Scretarial/Book-keeping Diploma
I was offered three jobs within a matter of weeks!
H S – Personal Assistant
“I recently studied Marketing Essential with Pitman Training. I currently deal with marketing in my business. As Managing Director and Marketing Director I felt it necessary to gain some formal training in marketing.
Pitman Training’s course allowed me to study at my own pace in my own time and at my convenience – thus alleviating the stress that returning to study can cause. The on hand tutors provided efficient and effective back up and the training room was a peaceful and relaxed area to study.
I thoroughly recommend Pitman Training – and even signed up for a Diploma course with them as a direct result of enjoying the Marketing Essentials Course.”
GS – Marketing Essentials
I have just completed my Accounting Technician Diploma with Pitman in Edinburgh.
I had relocated to Fife after working as an Office Manager in Livingston and I was now at home looking after my 3yr old son. I had tried to get a couple of part time admin jobs but was unsuccessful, with the view being that I was over qualified. I therefore felt that it would be easier to work from home as a self employed bookkeeper, this would mean I could earn some money and have the flexibility to look after my son. I had carried out various aspects of invoicing etc over the years but could never call myself a bookkeeper, I therefore needed to get a formal qualification that would give prospective clients the trust required.
After checking the internet I contacted Fran Maclean in Edinburgh, she invited me in for a chat and on her advice I arranged to complete the Accounting Technician Diploma as this was better suited to running your own business rather than just being an employee.
I arranged to complete my diploma from home, and only had to visit the Office in Edinburgh for 2 modules. I enjoyed every minute of this diploma, as I was able to fit the studying around home life. Help was available if required but the learning materials were actually so good that I don’t think I ever needed to call for help.
I have now completed my Diploma and am arranging to sit the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers entrance exam, this will allow me to portray a much more professional image when dealing with clients.
Completing this Diploma has given me much more confidence, and as a result I have decided to widen the scope of my business idea.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Pitman Training and am sure that I will continue to use them myself in the future.
PC – Accounting Technician Diploma
I believe that the only reason I was granted an interview let alone being offered this position, is because I had enrolled for your course at Pitman Training, Edinburgh.
F C – Medical Secretary
The training course helped me to build on my degree and specialise in Microsoft Skills to help me find employment in the computer support and administration industry. I enjoyed being able to get a “hands on” approach from the course.
M H – IT Systems Administrator
Training was excellent – very knowledgeable and able to answer questions and provide examples.
