Legal Text Processing

The Legal Text Processing training course  is available at the Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness Pitman Training Centres or via Online Distance Learning through our Pitman Campus.

This course is relevant for English Law.  For the Scots Law version please look at  the Legal Secretarial – Scots Law course.

This Legal Text Processing course has been created by CILEx (The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives) for those of you seeking to start your career in a legal office as a Legal Secretary, Legal Assistant or Paralegal.

Introduction: includes example letters used in a legal office such as a client care letter, information on the fictitious case study including an organisation chart and the work of a legal secretary.

Module One:  Criminal Litigation – documentation includes: Letters relating to Court hearings, Attendance note, Affidavit, Attendance note, Statement of Accused, Brief to Counsel.

Module Two: Family Law – documentation includes: Statement of reconciliation, Statement of arrangement for children, Letter relating to Legal Aid, Application for decree nisi, Answer to petition, Attendance note.

Module Three: Wills and Probate – documentation includes: Draft Will, Engrossed Will, Codicil, Statutory Notice, Estate Accounts, Acknowledgement of legacy, File note.

Module Four: Civil Litigation – documentation includes: Attendance note, Progress chart, Letter before action, Claim form N1, Particulars of Claim, Defence, Certificate of Service, Statement, Bill of costs.

Module Five: Conveyancing – documentation includes: Form K16, Form OS1, Form LLC1, Transfer (Form TR1), Completion Statement.

Module Six: Corporate Law – documentation includes: Application to register a company, Articles of Association, Attendance note.

This course is designed for those who want to work in a Legal office as a Legal Secretary or Assistant.

On successful completion of the course you will be well placed to go on and take the CILEx/City & Guilds Level 2 Text Processing Exam.

A knowledge of Microsoft Word would be advantageous.
