Foundation Award in Book-Keeping with AAT

The Foundation Award in Book-Keeping with AAT training course is available at the Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness Pitman Training Centres or via Online Distance Learning through our Pitman Campus.

First and foremost, this award is designed for beginners to finance and accounting. It’s ideal for anyone keen to develop bookkeeping skills for an accounting role; whether within a finance department for a business as a Bookkeeper or Accounts Assistant, or providing your own services to small businesses.

Once you’ve successfully completed the course you’ll gain a Pitman Training Certificate and you could opt to undertake the relevant examinations to gain the AAT Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping (Level 2).

Book-Keeping Transactions and Controls Part 1

You will cover the double entry system, the basics of VAT, checking invoices for accuracy, day books, general ledger, purchase ledger and sales ledger, prompt payment discount, petty cash books, balancing ledger accounts and many other aspects of manual bookkeeping.

Book-Keeping Transactions and Controls Part 2

This course will help you learn the processes and methods involved in intermediate manual bookkeeping. You will cover  cash and bank reconciliations, balancing ledger accounts, using the journal, credit control, bad debt, payroll, VAT schemes, error correction, control accounts and many other aspects of manual bookkeeping.

Microsoft Excel

Learn spreadsheet skills to a good business standard. This course will enable you to create a spreadsheet, enter data, formulas and functions; create charts and more.

If you’ve got a head for figures and want to learn the art of manual book-keeping, and gain a recognised industry qualification as you do, this Award is for you.

Whether you’re in the first stages of your career, or want qualifications to offer credibility to clients you are working with, or you’re a small business owner who wants to get a firmer grip on your finances, the practical nature of this course is great for all.

This award can lead to a fantastic number of careers in accountancy such as Bookkeeper, Accounts Assistant or Finance Assistant. If you’re keen to plot a definitive path for promotion you could work towards roles such as Finance Manager, Assistant Accountant/Accountant, Auditor and more.

By the end of this course you will have knowledge and understanding of the double entry principles of book-keeping, how to process book-keeping transactions, control accounts, journals and the banking system.

There are no prerequisites for this course.
