CyberSecurity 101

In this course, you’ll explore information security concepts and the security-related roles within an organisation. You’ll explore the actions that expose us to security risks, the roles we play in maintaining or breaching security, and the various controls that can be implemented to mitigate risks.

CyberSecurity 102

Continuing with the foundational elements of security begun in the previous course, in this second course, you’ll explore different ways organisations protect their information and systems from malicious activity.

Getting Started with Information Security

Now that you’ve learned the core foundational elements of security, it’s time to start thinking like a security professional. In this course, you’ll learn about security topologies and the key role they play in network security. You’ll delve into pen testing, and you’ll learn how honeypots can help protect an organisation’s systems. You’ll also learn about APT defences, network access control, subnetting, and DNS security.

Evaluating and Planning for Security Risks

In the course, you’ll examine various components of the risk identification process and different techniques used to identify risk. You’ll explore the assessment, classification, and prioritisation of security risks. And you’ll identify the activities involved in the risk management process, the importance of risk strategies in the context of work environments, and essential decisions required for managing security risks effectively.

Cloud Essentials+

This course provides a thorough introduction to cloud computing. Topics covered include essential cloud principles and cloud networking, cloud migration strategies, cloud connectivity and load balancing, cloud storage technologies, cloud design considerations, cloud security, and risk mitigation with cloud infrastructure.

Cloud+

This course offers a deep dive into cloud computing. Suitable for working or aspiring network and systems administrators, as well as cloud computing specialists seeking to strengthen their skillset, you’ll explore cloud solution design, cloud security, deployment of cloud solutions, ongoing management of cloud solutions, and troubleshooting issues with cloud environments.

Cloud Security Fundamentals

This course provides an introduction to cloud security concepts and covers the core principles of cloud infrastructure, data, and application security.

Security+

In this course, we’ll cover the essential knowledge and skills relating to IT security, including attacks, threats and vulnerabilities, architecture and design, implementation, operations and incident response, and governance, risk, and compliance. Cloud Security Administration

In this course, you’ll learn how to maintain a secure cloud environment using open-source software. “After graduating a few years ago and going off for a few years to live abroad, I then came back and decided to pursue a career in law. I decided the best route was to first get experience in a law firm and then perhaps study part time. My goal was to become a legal secretary to start off but the skills required such as Microsoft Office packages and knowledge of legal terminology and procedures was not something I had picked up at university!!
I decided I needed a foot in the door and chose to study for the legal secretarial diploma at Pitman. “I studied the Microsoft Fast Track Diploma and the computer keyboard skills course two years ago. At the time I was completing my Open University degree, and panicking because I had to submit a properly- bound word-processed project, including diagrams taken from scientific journals and I barely knew how to switch the computer on! In my first session I was advised to undertake the introduction to Windows course first because I didn’t have even the very basics.
Having overcome that first hurdle, I really enjoyed the course. The supervisors were really helpful and patient, and never made me feel that I was being stupid, even when I was! “I just wanted to write and say how much I enjoyed the medical terminology course, and also the medical audio word processing.
After spending the last few years as a carer looking after mum, even the thought of part-time work was daunting. At the time I started the course I was not confident to look for work, but the more I went into the “office” the more my confidence grew.

“I have completed two Diplomas at Pitman Training, first the Secretarial Diploma, and then the Accounts Technician Diploma with AAT.
I was at School before training began, started Pitman in the final year of school through my mum’s suggestion and finished training just before I got my University degree.
As I was at University during the peak of the economic crisis it was emphasised to us by every tutor/lecturer that just having a degree is not enough for you to stand out from the crowd in the job market. That extra skills and experience are essential.
I was studying economics and finance at university, so after completing the Secretarial Diploma for computer/admin skills I thought it would be a good idea to get some financial related qualification from Pitman.
The training has helped me enormously with University assignments and essay writing. It allowed me to make the most of the Microsoft applications, and therefore produce the best work I could. The touch typing skills I learnt are exceedingly useful, it cuts out so much time and now requires minimal effort to type up my thoughts/information, the words are on the screen pretty much the instant my brain thinks them.
Having Excel and Excel Expert has helped me in too many ways to count. In part-time jobs, I was able to provide a high standard of work and also impress managers by surpassing what is expected of me with computer related tasks. It also opened doors to new responsibilities in my work that wouldn’t have been given to me if I wasn’t so capable in Microsoft.
I am now working at an Architects as an Accounts Assistant. Every day I am using the skills that I learnt including Sage and Microsoft in particular Excel. I had pretty good admin skills but no qualifications and felt like I was stuck in a rut. “I had previously enrolled on a ECDL course through Aberdeen College which I failed to complete as the course was primarily home based with pre-historic methods for learning the given subjects and using there computers wasn’t really an option because of full time classes and a raffle ticket method for trying to book a computer.

“When I first came to see you I found myself aged 50 with no skills to offer the modern workplace and I had no idea how I would earn a living and support myself financially. “When I first came to Pitman my life was at a bit of a crossroads. I had just been made redundant from a job I had worked in for almost 13 years. I had been a hallmarker, putting hallmarks on pieces of jewellery. Although quite a skilled job, outside of this specialised profession my skills and experience were now to be useless in what was a tough and competitive job market.
So here I was out in the real world again, and in my mid 40’s too. This was when I decided, with some coaxing from my wife to go to Pitman and eventually enrolled in the Book Keeping level 2 module 1. The advisor explained the courses available and gave me some extra confidence that I could complete the course. I hadn’t done any real studying since I had left school many years ago, and was only barely computer literate but I soon got into the swing of things and started to really enjoy my course. The supervisors were always very helpful and I liked the peaceful, friendly environment to study in.
I had not long completed (and passed with distinction) my course when I was lucky enough to get a job as an accounts assistant with Menzies Distribution, in one of the biggest accounts departments in Edinburgh which I had seen advertised at the job centre. I had only been unemployed for 3 month but I’m sure that through my new qualification and support from Pitman I had now found a new Job in a completely different field.
I have now been at Menzies for over 2 years, and have recently returned to Pitman to study Sage 50 with plans to do Microsoft Excel next. I proved to myself that it’s never too late to start studying again.”

“I studied the Accounting Technician Diploma with Pitman Training in Edinburgh. I decided to do this course, as I was just about to be made redundant, and decided that I wanted to gain some new skills to help me when applying for a new job. I was also thinking about starting my own company, and thought that finance studies would never go wrong.
A couple of months after redundancy, I got a temporary post at SAMH, and then applied and got my current post as the HRD (Human Resources & Development) Administrator. Although I hadn’t completed the course when I got my job, the skills I had learnt so far has helped me out in my new job, as I have to monitor budgets and make monthly reports to my boss.
I enjoy learning at Pitman. You learn at your own speed, which makes it all much easier. This is the second course I’ve done at Pitman, and would recommend it to anyone.”

I have now come to the end of my courses in finance, and I should like to say how impressed I was with the quality of training I received through them all.
The knowledge I have gained has consolidated and enhanced my previous experience in a number of accounts jobs over the years, and given me new confidence in my skills and abilities to truly pursue bookkeeping as a specialist career. There are certainly many businesses out there that really need competent “accounting technicians”.
As soon as I had completed my Sageline 50 Accounts course, I got a second job using both this training and the previous course I completed, Excel Proficient. My training in Manual PAYE and Sage Payroll has enabled me to take over the wages responsibility in my other part-time bookkeeping job, and I have also set up a stock control system on the laptop using Excel spread sheets.There is also a possibility of taking on a further job working from home a couple of afternoons / evenings a week, doing the accounts for another local business using Sage on a laptop.
I am delighted with the “instant” results my training with yourselves have produced – the investment of time, money and effort was definitely worthwhile, now that I am reaping rewards well beyond my original expectations…. even at my time of life (over 50), retraining to specialist level in accounts has been an excellent decision.

“I studied the Executive PA Diploma with Pitman. I started studying it in January 2013, it was a great way to start the new year.
Before training I was working in a pub. Having graduated from Glasgow University with an English degree, I found it very difficult to get a job and to know what jobs to apply for. I began working in a hotel for three years before I realised no matter how good I was at my job or how many shifts I had done, there was no room for growth.
Training really helped me, it helped me get some focus and direction and it was a great way to learn new skills. It allowed me to get up to speed with all the Microsoft packages and to get back into the way of using computing skills. It also allowed me to broaden my job search as I now had skills I didn’t have before and skills that companies were looking for.
I now work at St Margaret of Scotland Hospice, which I am really enjoying, where I have been employed as a Receptionist and Medical Secretary.
I really enjoyed my Pitman course, all the staff were very friendly and always willing to help out with any problems. I definitely feel if I hadn’t done the Pitman course I would have struggled for even longer to find a job.”
